You will need:
- the template printed out
- air dry sculpting medium (model magic, air dry Fimo, etc.)
- acrylic paint (dark brown, copper, whatever colour you want)
- scissors and/or craft knife (with cutting mat)
- a sculpting tool with a sharp edge
- string or cording
- a paint brush (and something to put the paint on)
- a rolling pin
- super/crazy/hot glue
- parchment paper
- Mod Podge or your choice of finishing coat (optional)
First you will need to print out the template which can be found here.
Carefully cut out the template.
Place a piece of parchment paper down to stop things from sticking to your work surface. Take some of your sculpting medium, roll it into a ball, then flatten it out evenly using a rolling pin. You don't want it to be too thin; ours was about 1/4" thick. Make sure the flattened sculpting medium is large enough to fit the template onto.
Place your cut out template onto the rolled out sculpting medium and begin to cut the excess clay away with a sharp sculpting tool. Take your time with this, you want to get the clay cut away as close to the shape of the template as possible. Don't forget to cut away the excess sculpting medium between the silhouette of the legs.
Once completely cut out, remove the template from the sculpting medium and let it dry completely before moving on.
Once your ornament is completely dry, paint it in your choice colour (we used dark brown). You may need to do multiple coats to achieve an even colour. Don't forget to paint the sides of the ornament as well as the back. Let the paint dry completely before moving on.
Once the paint is dry you can coat your ornament in Mod Podge or your choice of finishing coat (optional).
Cut a decent length of your string or cording and glue it to the back of the ornament along the back of H.G's arm and to the top of the grappling gun. The glue/cording will help strengthen the thinest part of the silhouette. Let the glue dry before moving on.
Tie an overhand knot to create a loop for hanging a ways away from the ornament itself. You want some single cording to create the illusion of them hanging from the grappler before the loop knot. Cut any excess cording.
Now you have your finished Bering & Wells silhouette ornament!
